The short version
- Photo checks, video checks and rep counting run on your phone. Photos, clips and camera frames are never uploaded.
- An account is optional. Without one, everything stays on your phone.
- With an account, your routines, habits, history and settings sync to it, so a new phone gets them back. Photos never sync. You can delete your account and everything in it in the app.
- Apple handles payment for Daybreak Plus. Our subscription provider, RevenueCat, tells the app whether your subscription is active.
- No ads, no tracking, no analytics, and we never sell or share your information.
Who we are
Daybreak (“Daybreak”, “we”, “us”) is an iPhone app and the website at getdaybreakapp.com, run by Ahmed Rashwan, based in the United Kingdom. We are responsible for the personal information described here. You can reach us at support@getdaybreakapp.com.
What’s on your phone, and what syncs
What you put into Daybreak is stored in the app’s private storage on your iPhone:
- your plan: the name you choose to be greeted by, your wake time, your companion and its name, and your morning, evening and custom routines;
- your habits and which ones you completed on each day, your streaks and the quotes you save;
- how each check-in was completed (verified or done without proof) and which check you chose for habits you wrote yourself;
- for habits you check against your own reference photo, a small set of numbers describing that photo (brightness and texture), not the photo itself;
- your most recent verified made-bed photo, replaced each time you check in;
- your reminder, alarm and check-in settings, and whether an alarm’s wake-up check is still owed;
- what your Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets show (your pet, streak and today’s steps), shared only with Daybreak’s widgets on the same phone.
Without an account, none of this leaves your phone and we cannot see it. It is deleted when you delete the app. If you use iCloud or computer backups, your iPhone may include it in those backups under Apple’s terms.
If you are signed in, Daybreak syncs a copy of your plan, routines, habits, completion history, check-in records (how each habit was completed, not any photo or clip), saved quotes, and reminder and check-in settings to your account, so they come back on a new phone or after reinstalling. This copy is stored by our provider, Supabase, and only your signed-in account can read it. We use it only to sync it back to you, and look at it only if you ask us for help or the law requires it.
Never synced: photos and video clips, your made-bed photo, the numbers describing your reference photos, Apple Health data, and Screen Time selections.
Camera, microphone, photos and videos
Daybreak uses the camera only when you start a check, and the microphone only while you record a video check.
- Photo checks are analysed on your phone, using the image recognition built into iPhone (Apple’s Vision framework) and Daybreak’s own on-device model. The photo is not uploaded and is discarded after the check, except your latest verified made-bed photo, kept privately on your phone.
- Video checks record a short clip, analyse it on your phone to see that you are in view and moving, then delete it. The camera records sound with any video; Daybreak doesn’t use the sound, and it is deleted with the clip.
- Rep counting (push-ups and squats, including the ones that turn off an alarm) reads the live camera feed on your phone to find body positions and count reps. Frames are processed in memory and immediately discarded. Nothing is recorded, saved or sent.
- Timed checks use only a countdown on your phone. Daybreak only notices that the screen locked, nothing about other apps.
Example photos shown before a check come with the app and are never compared with your photos. Daybreak cannot pick photos from your library and does not ask for access to it.
Apple Health
Some habits (walks, runs, yoga, stretching, meditation and breathing) can be confirmed with Apple Health instead of the camera. If you choose this, iPhone asks your permission, and Daybreak reads only today’s walking, hiking, running, yoga, flexibility and mind-and-body workouts, step count and mindful minutes.
This is read on your phone to decide whether the habit is verified. Daybreak never writes to Apple Health, never uploads, stores or shares Health data, and never uses it for advertising or marketing. You can turn access off in Settings, then Health, then Data Access & Devices, then Daybreak.
Reminders and alarms
If you turn on reminders, Daybreak schedules local notifications on your phone. If you turn on an alarm (iOS 26 and later), Daybreak schedules it with iPhone’s alarm system, which rings it at the time you chose. Both are created on your device; we don’t run a notification or alarm server and receive nothing about them. You can turn them off in Daybreak or in iPhone Settings.
Accounts
You can use Daybreak without an account. If you create one, we process:
- your email address and a password (stored only in hashed form), or, if you choose Sign in with Apple or Google, the identifier and email address they share with us;
- sign-in records needed to keep you signed in securely, such as session tokens and the time of your last sign-in.
We use this only to let you sign in, to sync your data and to contact you about your account. Our provider, Supabase, stores it for us, along with the synced copy described above. Photos are never part of your account.
Subscriptions
Daybreak Plus is sold through the App Store. Apple handles the payment; we never receive your card or payment details.
We use RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active, so the app can unlock Daybreak Plus. RevenueCat receives your App Store purchase and renewal records from Apple, an app user ID (a random identifier, or your Daybreak account ID if you are signed in), your country or App Store region, and basic device details such as the iOS and app version. It does not receive your routines, photos or Health data, and we don’t use it for advertising.
This website
The website is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel processes your IP address and basic request details (such as the page requested and your browser type) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. The site sets no cookies, uses no analytics or advertising tools and loads no third-party scripts or fonts. See the cookie policy.
What we don’t do
- We don’t show ads or use advertising identifiers.
- We don’t track you across other apps or websites.
- We don’t use third-party analytics in the app or on the website.
- We don’t sell or share your personal information.

These providers act on our instructions and may process information in the United States and other countries. Where the law requires it, transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and others.
Why we’re allowed to use it
If you are in the UK, the EU or a similar region: we process account and subscription information to provide the service you asked for (contract), website request data for security and to run the site (legitimate interests), and the camera, microphone and Apple Health only at your request, on your own device.
How long we keep it
- Account information and synced data: until you delete your account. Deleting it in the app removes both at once; a deletion by email is done within 30 days.
- Subscription records: as long as your subscription history is needed for billing, tax and support, as kept by Apple and RevenueCat.
- Emails you send us: as long as needed to help you, and no longer than two years.
- Website request logs: for the short period Vercel keeps them.
- Everything on your phone: until you delete it or the app.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask us to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, or to restrict or object to how we use it. California residents have the right to know, delete and correct, and not to be discriminated against for using these rights; we do not sell or share personal information. To make a request, email support@getdaybreakapp.com from the address on your account. We’ll answer within 30 days. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in the UK, that is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
Deleting your data
- On your phone: delete the Daybreak app. This removes your routines, history, check-in records and photos.
- Your account: in the app, open You, then Manage account, then Delete account. Your account, sign-in details and synced data are deleted from our servers straight away; what’s on your phone stays until you delete the app. If you can’t get into the app, email support@getdaybreakapp.com from the address on your account and we’ll delete it within 30 days.
- Your subscription: cancel it in your Apple Account settings. Deleting the app or your account doesn’t cancel it.
Children
Daybreak is not intended for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Security
Data on your phone is protected by iOS. Account information and synced data are sent over encrypted connections and stored encrypted by our provider, with access limited to your signed-in account and to what’s needed to run the service. No method is perfectly secure, but keeping photos on your device means there is far less to protect.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date above and, for meaningful changes, tell you in the app before they take effect. If Daybreak ever starts uploading anything that stays on your phone today, such as photos, we’ll ask you first.
